Hey guys. I’m back again with a new challenge for foxee.

I’m doing a website with property listings.

I need to:
1. Create a new property listing through SAEF.
2. Be able to have the user close their listing if the property is unavailable.
3. Be able to have the user open their property again if it becomes available.

I’ve looked at two ways of doing this.

1. Subscriptions - Use creates a listing (product entry) (which I can handle the extra weblog entry to foxee product sql on my own. Then purchases a monthly subscription for that entry(product).
I know their is a “cancel_subscription” tag, but is their a “renew_subscription” tag as well? So if the property rents, they can pull it offline. If it becomes available later, they just renew the subscription and they’re off.
Billing takes care of itself. I know their is a renew_subscription hook on foxycart, just wanted to see if that’s implemented in FoxEE.

2. Classifieds - was looking at the classifieds addon you guys produce. That also seems like an ideal way.
But again, can I renew a classified entry? Can I “auto-renew” while still open? If they mark closed (rented) can I open it again later (property available)?

Anywho, if you guys need more info, I’ll be happy to oblige. Just curious which way you’d recommend.
Or a whole new direction.

Thanks!
AJP

hey there,

The renew_subscription hook in FoxyCart is used for recurring subscriptions and is part of the foxee settings. Although it doesn’t look like it will work for your purposes.

It sounds like you want a way to allow a user to save a listing and then cancel it or renew at will. And renewing would bill them (canceling will prorate them?)

I would start with classifieds and then use a minimum time length the user can pick from (one week) if the unit gets rented they close it, if they need another week they buy it.

I don’t see any docs anywhere about renew_subscription. *EDIT* you’re probably talking about the renew_subscription hook from foxycart, not one in foxEE.

I’ll be trying first without classifieds, and then with classifieds if I run into problems.
I’ll let you know how it works.

the renew-sub feature that you are talking about handles the recurring payment in the foxee tab on the weblog entry panel. Thats the only way to currently set up subscription renewals, there is no manual renewal like the manual cancel tag.

Renewing some discussion on this thread, can I have a user create their own foxee products?
I want them to create a property, and then purchase the subscription for that product.
I could use a SAEF to enter the product info. Are foxee tags/fields SAEF award?

Otherwise, I would need to run my own “activate foxee product” routine that would add the info from the listing to create records in the foxee tables, correct?

Thanks!

We’re currently using Banners to let the users create their own property listings.

However, purchasing credits first has added a lot of steps to our user’s experience. Almost too many.
1. Create account. ( a few clicks and form fields)
2. Purchase Credit (a few clicks and form fields on foxycart).
3. Fill out property listing using SAEF for each available credit (a few clicks and lots of form fields).
4. We review and mark property as “open”.
5. Property goes live.

10 clicks and pages, is a little more confusing that the “fill out this form, enter credit card, and poof goes live”.

We can launch with it this way, but we’d like to have a user create the property listing, and checkout (knowing that this type of product) is a subscription, like banners. Not the purchase credits first.

Do you know how we could reduce the number of steps? Would we have to create a new Foxee Addon?

Thanks!

Hi AJP,
I’m doing something similar, with a business directory. Were you able to come up with a better solution?

Thanks,
Ken
