Olga’s Skin Care

HCC Development has just released an E-Commerce solution for Olga Nisenboim, owner of Olga’s Skin Care, located in Highland Park, Illinois. This representation of her product line and the ability to manage her sales, inventory and promotions is indispensable to her growing business.


The challenge with this project was integrating the Spa’s running accounting and inventory systems into a centrally located database where they could pull information freely to send to their Accountant, Sales Manager, and Production Supervisor. 


HCC adopted this project when the owner, Olga, was not happy with the progress from her original design firm. With so many different approaches and software packages available, it is easy to make a mistake trying to partner a client with a E-Commerce solution. With such an adverse product line, the requirement to issue gift certificates and needing to send regular promotional newsletters, the Flash based system that was originally developed was not going to work. HCC made the decision to switch software packages to CS-CART, a robust feature rich E-Commerce and content management system.


There were many challenges with this project starting with the Home page. HCC wanted to replicate some of the original design that utilized fade sequences produced with the Flash software. Special Javascript functions were utilized to produce the desired effect. Another challenge was to create a user friendly navigation system while working with the back-end software that is used to track, calculate and store the user data as they shop. Special templates were created to manage the navigation and utilize custom button graphics and rollovers.


After the design was complete and the software was configured, the next challenge was to create the complex catalog of more then 240 products. Each product needed the ability to have related products, be included on multiple categories, display three different images as well as all of the standard controls for price, inventory and description. HCC was able to import the product line into the MySQL database, complete with description, item code, stock level and price. The next step was to add the product images and configure the SEO for each product. This process went quickly due to the fact that the database was automatically created.


The finished product will provide Olga’s Skin Care with a solid sales product that has the ability to expand as the business needs. HCC is currently adding the services offered by the Day Spa to the catalog so Olga can keep track of the Spa’s sales from one central location. Once again proving the advantage of properly planning a project, using the proper software and working with the client to create a workflow compatible with their ongoing business.
